Induction procedure

(1) This Procedure is effective from 5 September 2017.

Section 2 - Purpose

(2) This Procedure documents the processes for the induction of staff to the University.

(3) This Procedure applies to all staff of the University.

(4) This Procedure is pursuant to the Employment of Staff policy.

Section 5 - Procedures

(5) The induction program for new staff comprises three elements:

  1. Online induction
  2. Local area induction
  3. interactive induction.

Online induction

(6) The Executive Director, Human Resources will ensure that a University-wide Online Induction Program is provided for all new staff. Managers will ensure that new staff complete the program.

Local area induction

(7) Managers will provide new staff in their area with a local induction program in accordance with the Local Area Induction Checklist.

(8) Managers will ensure that new staff are informed about requirements relating to hazardous work as specified in the Local Area Induction Checklist (Potentially Hazardous Work) and the Occupational Health and Safety Manual.

(9) Managers will ensure that new staff do not carry out hazardous or potentially hazardous work until they have been adequately trained or unless they are directly supervised by trained staff.

Interactive induction

(10) The Executive Director, Human Resources will organise Interactive induction sessions throughout the year for new staff which will be convened by one or more members of the Executive.
