Induction procedure

Section 1 - Preamble

(1) This Procedure was approved by the Vice-Chancellor on 21 November 2008 and incorporates all amendments to 22 July 2015.

(2) This Procedure is pursuant to the Employment of Staff policy.

Section 5 - Procedures

(6) The Executive Director, Human Resources Division will ensure that a University-wide Online Induction Program is provided for new staff members. Managers will ensure that new staff members complete the program.

(7) Managers will provide new staff members in their area with a local induction program in accordance with the Local Area Induction Checklist.

(8) Managers will ensure that new staff members are informed about requirements relating to hazardous work as specified in the Local Area Induction Checklist (Potentially Hazardous Work) and the Occupational Health and Safety Manual.

(9) Managers will ensure that new staff members do not carry out hazardous or potentially hazardous work until they have been adequately trained or unless they are directly supervised by trained staff.

(10) The Executive Director, Human Resources Division will organise information sessions throughout the year for new staff members, which will be convened by one or more members of the Executive.
