Art Collection and Galleries policy

Section 1 - Preamble

(1) This Policy is effective from 20 March 2023.

Section 2 - Purpose

(2) This Policy ensures that the Art Collection and Galleries make a difference to the communities the University serves, enrich the student and staff experience and assist the University's teaching and learning program.

Section 3 - Scope

(3) This Policy applies to the University's art collection, Deakin University Art Gallery and exhibitions managed by the Art Collection and Galleries Unit.

Section 4 - Policy

(4) The art collection, gallery spaces and exhibition program will be professionally managed in line with contemporary best practice in order to enhance the University's brand and reputation.

(5) The University will consolidate and expand the art collection by acquiring significant artworks (mainly by contemporary Australian artists) and by deaccessioning unsuitable or inappropriate artworks, subject to the advice of the Senior Manager, Art Collection and Galleries and within budgetary provisions.

(6) The University will organise an exhibition program in the Deakin University Art Gallery to celebrate diverse art practices, create partnerships with the external community and provide a focus for visual arts scholarship, research and appreciation.

(7) Any reproduction of images of artwork from the art collection must be lawful and properly acknowledged.

(8) The Art Collection and Galleries procedure documents how to comply with this Policy.

(9) For the purpose of this Policy:
