Sponsorship of External Activities policy

Section 1 - Preamble

(1) This Policy is effective from 14 June 2023.

Section 2 - Purpose

(2) This Policy governs University sponsorship for the conduct of a range of curricular and extra-curricular activities.

Section 3 - Scope

(3) This Policy applies to all staff and students of the University, the University community and the wider community. It excludes sponsorship support for University teaching or research partnerships.

Section 4 - Policy

(4) The University will sponsor activities that:

  1. are consistent with its strategic objectives
  2. aim to strengthen relationships with key stakeholders
  3. maximise the University's promotional opportunities
  4. serve the University community and wider communities.

(5) The annual sponsorship priorities require the approval of the Vice-Chancellor, on the advice of the Special Adviser to the Vice-Chancellor.

(6) The Special Adviser to the Vice-Chancellor will ensure that the University sponsors a balanced mix of activities that reflects the diversity of the University community's pursuits and interests.

(7) Any Sponsorship from a foreign government, foreign university, foreign business or any other foreign organisation or entity must be evaluated for the risk of seeking inappropriate access to, or influence over, particular persons, areas of activity, or research outcomes through various forms of funding arrangements (e.g. donations) or collaborations, financial or other inducements targeted at individuals.
