Workforce Design and Planning policy

Section 1 - Preamble

(1) This Policy was approved by the Vice-Chancellor on 21 November 2008 and incorporates all amendments to 7 October 2009.

(2) This Policy is pursuant to the Employment of Staff policy.

Section 2 - Purpose

(3) This Policy outlines the University's commitment to a model for workforce design and planning to support the University's mission and core commitments.

Section 3 - Scope

(4) This Policy applies to all staff of the University.

Section 4 - Policy

(5) The Executive Director, Human Resources Division is responsible for the development and review of a University-wide model for workforce design and planning to support the University's mission and core commitments.

(6) Heads of Organisational Areas, in consultation with the Executive Director, Human Resources Division will undertake and implement workforce design and planning activities and initiatives to support this model, including:

  1. developing and implementing annual staffing plans
  2. identifying resource or capability gaps
  3. supporting staff to develop their skills
  4. implementing succession planning for key positions
  5. evaluating and reviewing positions, position descriptions and classifications
  6. evaluating and reviewing workload allocations, work arrangements and performance management practices.
