Web Publishing Policy

Section 1 - Preamble

(1) This Policy is effective from 18 April 2024.

Governing legislation

(2) The legislation governing web publishing at the University includes:

  1. Copyright Act 1968 (Cth)
  2. Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth)
  3. Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Vic)
  4. Health Records Act 2001 (Vic)
  5. Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 (Vic)
  6. Vice-Chancellor Regulations.

Section 2 - Purpose

(3) This Policy provides for the development and maintenance of high quality web content for the University.

Section 3 - Scope

(4) This Policy applies University-wide.

Section 4 - Policy

(5) The University will develop, maintain and manage its website in a manner that will ensure:

  1. that information on each page complies with relevant legislation, international standards and University policy
  2. a consistent 'look and feel' across all University webpages, consistent with the Deakin brand
  3. that users have quick and direct access to content relevant to their needs
  4. that information on each page is current, accurate and accessible.

(6) The University will control content and style on all sites hosted on the Deakin domain (deakin.edu.au).

(7) The University will control style and proactively manage content on all sites officially representing the University hosted on other domains (e.g. Facebook, Twitter).

(8) The University will publish all webpages that contain University material from centrally maintained and managed systems.

(9) The University will use its website only for University-related activities.
