(1) This Policy was approved by the Vice-Chancellor on 16 March 2005, came into effect on 1 June 2005 and incorporates all amendments to 22 July 2015. (2) To provide the framework for the University's staff development offerings. (3) This Policy applies to staff throughout the University. (4) The University is committed to providing staff with opportunities to develop skills and knowledge that will enable them to contribute to the achievement of the University's strategic goals. (5) The University is committed to ensuring that development activities are compatible with University policies, in particular equal opportunity, occupational health and safety, work arrangements and performance management policies. (6) Managers will ensure that staff development requirements meet work area needs and that priorities are identified through the performance planning and review (PPR) process and that staff are provided with appropriate support, time and encouragement to undertake development activities. (7) Human Resources Division (HRD) is responsible for the management and provision of a University-wide Staff Development Program. (8) The Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education is responsible for the provision of teaching development programs for academic staff. (9) The Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research is responsible for the provision of research development and training programs for academic staff. (10) There is no attendant procedure.
