Summary of Changes from Previous Version

The new Deakin University Statute and University Regulations (University legislation) came into effect on 1 January 2021. Concurrently the existing University statutes and regulations were revoked, including Statute 9.1- Intellectual Property and Regulation 9.1(1) - Intellectual Property. This new Intellectual Property policy has been drafted to: • incorporate relevant provisions from Statute 9.1 - Intellectual Property and Regulation 9.1(1) and the previous Intellectual Property policy suite • align with the new Deakin University Statute and Regulations • align with the new Commercial Activities and Entities policy suite (approved by Council on 10 December 2020) • retain the University’s existing approach and principles regarding intellectual property ownership whilst introducing useful clarifications, additions and updates; • encompass input arising from consultation.

The Intellectual Property (Staff) policy, Intellectual Property (Student) policy and Intellectual Property procedure have been revoked and relevant content subsumed into this Intellectual Property policy.
